This amazing 97 Point Shiraz from Shaw & Smith is a tremendous value, and one of James Halliday's Top 100 Wines. No surprise as Shiraz is a regional specialty in the cool climate region of Adelaide Hills, and The Wine Advocate calls Shaw & Smith a benchmark producer! The winery has huge pedigree, as owner and winemaker Michael Smith was the first Australian to pass the rigorous Master of Wine examination, and cousin Martin Shaw was the creator of the Flying Winemaker project. They've shape the 2020 vintage into a Northern Rhone style, like Cote-Rotie, with finesse and elegance, beautiful perfume, bright raspberry and boysenberry notes, and elegant tannins. Where 2019 was more opulent, this 2020 is sleek and tailored.
"Lovely crunchy fruit to this, with spice and dried-meat undertones through the wine, from the nose to the palate. Medium body, fine tannins and a fresh and vivid finish. Tangy and bright. Drink or hold. Screw cap." James Suckling, 94 Points
