The rise of these table reds from Portugal started when The Wine Spectator dedicated two cover features to red wines from the Douro, asking whether or not Portugal could bring their reds to a "Grand Cru" level. Later that year, three of Wine Spectator's Top 5 wines were from Portugal. Plump and round with loads of blackberry, black plum and blueberry fruit with toasted notes and baking spices.
