The most famous red wine made in Tuscany is Brunello di Montalcino. 100% Sangiovese aged five years after harvest, the tiny estate of Canneta is owned by Roberto Giannelli, who also makes one of our favorite Brunello heavyweights San Filippo. Known for their ripe, powerful aromas, with an underlying intensity and weight that is typical of the southern vineyards, Canneta is a powerhouse, and one of the last of the historic 2016 vintage to be released. Dominated by flavors of freshly picked blueberries, this modern styled Brunello develops aromas of red fruits, with violet and black cherry notes, rising on the long coffee and oaky finish. Beautifully pure and inviting, with sweeping acidity and soft, ripe tannins. This is a serious, age worthy Brunello that could easily go 15 years in the cellar...if you can keep your hands off it!
"Full-bodied and full-flavored Brunello with black-plum, black-fruit and some mild fresh-licorice character. Silky palate and a fresh finish. This is well-poised and attractive now, but give it a little more time. Best from 2022." James Suckling, 92 Points
"Aromas of violet, leather and underbrush lead the way. The savory, medium-bodied palate offers black cherry, tobacco and white pepper alongside fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity." The Wine Enthusiast, 91 Points
