Along with Italian heavy hitter Prunotto, the Giovanni Rocca could be the single best expression of the varietal for the price. So vibrant that it practically shimmers across the palate, this low production Barbera is tightly wound and very focused. This Italian red wraps its juicy red and black fruit aromas around a core of nervy acidity and firm minerality. If you're a fan of Chianti Classico Riserva's, this may be a good introduction to the world of Piedmont wines.
