An under the radar producer, Pelassa might be the greatest Barolo that most collectors have never heard of!
Founded in 1960, the family always made and bottled wine under the Pelassa name, however the Italian market for their Barolo was so strong, the wines never left Italy. It wasn't until sons Daniele and Davide took over operations, that Pelassa began exporting. Being under the radar keeps prices down, which explains why you can get a Tre Bicchieri, 93+ point Barolo for under $40 a bottle! One of our personal favorites in our cellar, Pelassa is a throwback to when great Barolo tasted like 1er Cru Burgundy, with ripe notes of freshly picked raspberries. Suave and juicy, with ample fruit and well integrated tannins. We're down to our last cases of Wine Advocate's top selection for the price, don't miss this amazing Barolo!
"Showing elegant intensity and a long, polished mouthfeel, the Pelassa 2017 Barolo defies the hot vintage to bring nuance and complexity. This is an impressive effort that exhibits dark fruit, mild spice and lots of earthy intensity with a hint of black truffle and forest floor." The Wine Advocate, 93+ Points
