If you've never had a wine from Fleurie before, you're in for a real treat! This is a red French wine of great complexity, with a highly perfumed bouquet evoking fresh raspberry, black cherries and violets, plus an intense mineral overtone. On the palate, the fruit flavors put on weight and become spicier with some time. The Gilles Coperet La Madone comes from one of the best-known vineyards in Fleurie, as this cru vineyard expresses the highly granitic soils of the appellation. Medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine line of acidity and plenty of lovely tart red cherry fruit on the elegant finish. Very Burgundy-like, this is one of our favorite French Reds to serve at Thanksgiving!
"A complex Fleurie that marries ripe and savory notes with a fresh herbal and mineral character to create a very convincing whole. Medium-bodied with a long, elegant finish. With a bit more power this would rate even higher. Sustainable. Drink or hold." James Suckling, 92 Points
"This wine is still tight, with the potental for aging. Berry fruits are dominant along with a firm layer of tannin. The wine needs to age, so drink from 2025." The Wine Enthusiast, 90 Points
