If you've never had a Fleurie before, you're in for a real treat! A wine of great complexity, Fleurie has a highly perfumed bouquet evoking fresh raspberry, black cherries, and violets, plus an intense mineral overtone. On the palate, the red fruit flavors put on weight and become spicier with time. The 2020 Gilles Coperet Les Roches comes from one of the best-known vineyards in Fleurie. A 65 year-old cru vineyard, which expresses the highly granitic soils of the appellation perfectlly. Medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine line of acidity and plenty of lovely tart red cherry fruit on the elegant finish. The 2020 is very Burgundy-like, and one of our French favorites for under $20!
"This ripe and enormously structured Fleurie has been built for the ages, but it also has stacks of blackcurrant and forest-berry fruit and they enable it to be enjoyed today (though preferably with some aeration first). The long, stony finish makes a major statement, but is also finely nuanced and silky." James Suckling, 94 Points
