The only Latin American winemaker to obtain 100 points from Robert Parker, Marcelo Pelleriti is a tour de force. His day job is winemaker at Monteviejo and the Bordeaux properties of the Pere-Verge family, Chateau Le Gay in Pomerol. He loves music, and often partners with famous Argentines like Felipe Stati from the Grammy award winning Los Enanitos Verdes, to collaborate on new projects. While these are generally unspectacular wines, albeit good stories, the Vertigo 2015 is an outlier. A deep, full-bodied blend of Malbec & Syrah from high elevation vineyards in the Uco Valley, there is an abundance of new oak (40% French) that plays well with the ripe fruit and tannins. It's a dead ringer for a high end Napa red and amazing for the price!
"This co-fermented blend of Malbec, Syrah and Cabernet Franc shows tension and focus with dark berries, dark chocolate and spice. Hints of walnuts, too. Extremely long and solid. This is an inspirational wine. Drink or hold." James Suckling, 97 Points
