Since the end of the 19th century, the Lafage family has been cultivating vines throughout France. At 40 years of age and passionate about his roots, Jean-Marc Lafage has taken over his family legacy. His best work is perhaps at home at his estate in the hills of the Roussillon with his wife, Eliane, also a highly accomplished winemaker. Their estate vineyards are located along the coast east of Perpignan, around Maury where vines have been cultivated dating back to the Romans. With some of the most dramatic topography in France, many of the zones are composed of extremely steep hillsides, followed by clay-limestone plains empowering the Lafage Bastide Miraflors with an excellent does of minerality.
"Tasted twice, two months apart, with consistent notes, the 2020 Côtes du Roussillon Bastide Miraflors is a 70-30 blend of Syrah and Grenache, aged in demi-muids and concrete tanks, respectively. There's a hint of peppermint, but the primary focus here is on the fruit, ranging from blueberries and mulberries into darker notes of plum and dark chocolate. It's full-bodied and creamy in texture, with deliciously supple, soft tannins, which make it exceptionally easy to drink now, but maybe not particularly long-lived." The Wine Advocate, 90 Points
