In a year filled with amazing Bordeaux offers, we thought we'd close with a library release of an all-time favorite, Chateau d'Issan 2016. An extraordinary place, and one of only fourteen "third growths" in the original 1855 classification, Chateau d'Issan expresses the exquisite bouquet of Margaux, and stands out with its suppleness, subtlety, elegance, and long keeping potential that come from its unique terroir. The 2016 vintage for Margaux was excellent, and the wines are just starting to enter their drinking window. A final blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot, matured in 50% new barrels, the alcohol was kept in check at 13.3% producing a classic Margaux through and through. Don't miss what Robert Parker calls “consistently one of the great wines of the appellation,” and the best vintage from Decanter's 19-year vertical tasing!
"Tight and closed but clearly going to power out of the gate in five or six years. Shows depth and persistency, with precision and balance to the fruit flavours, feels like every base is covered, laced through with liquorice, cinnamon and black chocolate, and although there is power it has a light touch. A delicious wine, long life ahead, note it down for the future." Decanter Magazine, 97 Points
"The brightness and precision already comes through on the nose with floral, blackcurrant character. Full-bodied and very tight and creamy with polished tannins that last for minutes. Warm and intense. Needs four to five years to show all it has, yet already a beauty." James Suckling, 96 Points
"This wine has an austere structure, with firm tannins. The fruit comes through slowly, revealing an attractive black-currant flavor and ample acidity. This will be a very fine wine with time; try after 2029." The Wine Enthusiast, 95 Points
