Chilean whites are reflective of a breathtaking topography, from their northern deserts to the emerald-colored south. Their Sauvignon Blanc's combine the elegance and minerality of a French Sancerre with the big aromatics of a Marlborough Sauvignon. No surprise that Wine Spectator's top rated Sauvignon Blanc in this price point is from boutique producer Casas del Bosque and winemaker Meinard Bloem. They upped their game again with a new "Botanic Series" from Casablanca that could easily be described as the best Sauvignon Blanc from Chile. Surprisingly complex, with citrus aromas of limes, grapefruit, and peaches plus mineral undertones. There's lots of bright fruit notes on the palate and a clean, fresh finish. Light on its feet at 13.5% alcohol, the Casas del Bosque Reserve is a perfect alternative to the lack of Sancerre we'll experience in 2023!
"For this La Cantera, Casas del Bosque selects vineyards from an area it owns in Las Dichas (La Cantera), with granite-rich soils and north-facing vineyards, which is a warmer orientation on this side of the world. This is a jovial wine with herbal and fruity aromas and slight saline touches in the middle of a body where the acidity is the backbone and, from there, the flavors of tart white fruits unfold throughout the palate. A perfect white for an aperitif." Descorchados, 92 Points
"Part of what Casas del Bosque call their Botanic Series, this is the bodega's second tier Sauvignon Blanc and is all the more impressive as a result. Green, sappy, intense and showing appealing gunflint aromas, it's a very drinkable style." Tim Atkin MW, 91 Points
"This has aromas of sliced green apples, green pears, passion fruit and lime curd. It’s tropical and bright with a medium body, crisp acidity and a fruity finish. Drink now." James Suckling, 90 Points
