Bordeaux Superieur with Grand Cru cache, the Cap Royal benefits from the expertise of Jean Rene Matignon, winemaker of second growth Chateau Pichon Baron. A traditional blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, you're met with aromas of blackberry and blueberry jam with spicy and toasted notes. On the palate, the richness of the wine is evident through a creaminess enhanced by vanilla notes brought by the ageing in oak barrels, a Jean Rene Matignon trademark. Considering our last offer of Pichon Baron 2015 sold for $150 a bottle, we'll gladly pop a few bottles of Cap Royal as we're waiting for Pichon to hit it's drinking window!
"Plush and juicy blackcurrant and tomato leaf, with some graphite, cherry and plum. It's brooding and sassy. Full, rich, ripe and raisiny, this is really quite tasty. 2019 was warm, and the fruit here is sweet and a little figgy, but it's rounded and smooth with soft ripe tannins. Fermented in steel and aged in French oak for six months. Great for the price, a value claret that punches above its weight." Decanter Magazine, 92 Points
