Another masterpiece from Juan Antonio Ponce, Bogedas Ponce is hands down one of our favorite producers in Spain. Listed as a Wine Advocate Top Discovery, this was big news for the relatively unknown winemaker. A huge deal, as out of 30,000 wines from around the world, Wine Advocate spotlighted their most notable discoveries in 2020 from among the bottles they’ve reviewed, Ponce was chosen. With La Xara, the purity and finesse of Garnacha is front and center, mixing with the ripe, red floral notes of raspberry and cherry. After an obsession of drinking Pinot Noir-like Garnacha from Gredos, we fawned over La Xara for it's similar ethereal nature. Only 25 cases available at this price. Don't miss it!
"Fresh and ripe brambly fruit with some grilled herbs, stones and racy red berries. Textured and mineral on the pure, bright and linear palate with flower and fruit notes coming through. A very engaging garnacha that I would drink glass after glass. From organically grown grapes. Irresistible now, why hold?" James Suckling, 93 Points
"2022 La Xara is serious but keeps freshness and finesse. It fermented with 100% full clusters in 4,500-liter oak vats and matured in 11,000-liter oak vats and 600-liter oak barrels for seven months. It has 13.5% alcohol and a pH of 3.65, with contained ripeness, red berry fruit and a serious, austere and stony sensation. This is serious and complete, with a solid palate and a strong limestone/chalky sensation without rusticity." The Wine Advocate, 93 Points
