Another masterpiece from Juan Antonio Ponce, Bogedas Ponce is hands down one of our favorite producers in Spain. Listed back in 2020 as a Wine Advocate Top Discovery, this was big news for the relatively unknown winemaker. Out of 30,000 wines from around the world, Wine Advocate spotlighted their most notable discoveries from among the bottles they’ve reviewed, and while we've featured four different Ponce wines in the past, his La Xara Garnacha 2021 is a standout for the price. The purity and finesse of their Garnacha is front and center, mixed with the ripe, red floral notes of raspberry and cherry fruit. After a small obsession of drinking Pinot Noir-like Garnacha from Gredos, we came across La Xara for it's similar ethereal nature. If you enjoy Rioja or other elegant, finesse driven reds, you are going to be wowed by the La Xara 2021.
"The 2021 La Xara is the latest bottled vintage of their pure Garnacha from a vineyard that benefited from the extra rain from the year and ripened slowly to perfection. They think they achieved more typicity, but keeping the freshness and fluidity. It's only 12.5% alcohol. Austere and serious, with a reticent nose, contained ripeness, and a mineral palate more in the style of a Garnacha from Gredos." The Wine Advocate, 93 Points
