Gold Medal Winning and a 3x Bottle King Wine of the Month, Piattelli is hands down our favorite Malbec from the highest elevation vineyards in Argentina, Cafayate! This is the highest wine growing region in the world sitting at 5,600ft above sea level. For comparison, the highest elevation vineyards in Napa is Atlas Peak at 2,600ft. The higher the elevation, the more direct and concentrated sunlight, less water and more dramatic temperature shifts. These vines produce fewer, yet more concentrated berries, which in turn produces better wines. Catena is another Argentine winery famed for their focus on high elevation vineyards. They found that high altitude Malbec receives such direct sunlight, it creates a thick, tough skin which contributes vivid color and strong tannin, essential for making an age worthy wine. The difference is their high elevation Malbec is sold for $50, while Piattelli's Alto Molino is an amazing value under $9!
"Gold Medal winning Malbec from Piattelli's high altitude vineyards in Cafayate. Full of fresh red fruit aromas, with hints of blackberry & licorice. This balanced red has notes of blueberry, chocolate, and ripe plum. Amazing value." The Wine Buyer, 91 Points
