One of the most sought-after pieces of land in Ribera del Duero, the estate of Bodegas y Vinedas Valderiz were planted in 1932, spread across 35 parcels, each with different soils and made up of the traditional low bush and trellis systems you find in the region. All vines have been grafted from the original vineyards planted almost 100 years ago, as this is an old school, traditional winery. A forerunner in organic agriculture, this is one of the most impressive $15 Spanish reds we've featured this year!

Rating
"The 2012 Valdehermoso Crianza has a very clean, focused nose with plenty of wild berry aromas intermixed with some spices and also flowers, very harmonious with balance and subtlety. The palate is medium-bodied and it's here where you notice its youth as it's still a little tight. There are abundant tannins, but there is also good balancing acidity. Very good Crianza that should develop nicely in bottle." The Wine Advocate, 91 Points

Wine maker notes
Bodegas y Vinedas Valderiz is located in the famed Roa de Duero, about 160 kms north of Madrid and represents seven generations of vine growers. The vineyards consist of 60 ha planted by Tomas Esteban and 10 ha planted by his father in 1932, all of which have been successfully maintained. The family is currently one of the forerunners in organic agriculture in the Ribera del Duero area. The total absence of herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers is the vineyard's distinctive trademark.
