A darling of the Wine Advocate's Robert Parker and Jeb Dunnuck, Chateau Maris first hit our radar a few years ago with their highly rated, organic reds. The Las Combes is 100% Grenache, sourced from the Cru La Liviniere, and the 2011 vintage shows gorgeous depth and concentration. Staunchly biodynamic, this is a French red with wide appeal, as it's just bursting with personality. If you love big Rhone reds, this one is for you!

Rating
“An excellent value. 100% Grenache that was fermented and aged in older wood. Strawberry, blackberry, kirsch, licorice, and spice all show here, and this medium-bodied, rounded, supple and beautifully textured 2012 will impress over the coming 4-5 years.” Wine Advocate, 91 Points

Wine maker notes
Chateau Maris was formed twenty years ago when Englishman Robert Eden immigrated to France with the dream of crafting wines that were a reflection of the land where the grapes were grown. He believed just as passionately then as he does today that "wine is grown and not made." Robert fell in love with the beauty and potential of the Minervois, who along with much of the Languedoc, has a winemaking history that goes back some 1000 years. Originally known for their bulk wines, the Southern Languedoc has recently established itself as a source of top-quality wines. They've truly come a long way, as where else in the world can you find this caliber of a full-bodied red wine for under $20?
