A former "wine producer of the year" from Le Grand Guide des Vins de France, Alain Brumont has produced one of the most interesting wines from Madiran we've ever tasted. 95 points from The Wine Enthusiast peaked our initial interest, but when we heard that some of the vines Brumont was using were 150+ years old, we had to try this wine.

Alain has put Madiran back on the wine map for most French wine enthusiasts, and some of his blends are considered more full-bodied styled Bordeaux. For his 2006 Old Vines Chateau Bouscasse (remember, 150+ years here) he only uses 100% Tannat, an obscure grape found in South West France. Dark cherry, and rich spice notes are the hallmarks of Tannat, with huge tannin structure and an ability to age for 10-20 years. If you're a fan of French wines like we are, this is a must try!

Rating
"Some vines at Bouscassť are 150 years old, which inevitably give this wine great depth and concentration. It is hugely structured, with very rich, intense black-plum flavors. The tannins are still developing." The Wine Enthusiast, 95 Points

Wine maker notes
The appellations of Madiran and Pacherenc du Vic-Bihl co-exist in the alluvial foothills of the Pyrenees and are located 160 kms almost directly south of Bordeaux. Madiran is the appellation for red wines with the main red wine grape variety being Tannat which is often blended with a little Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc or Fer-Servadou. Tannat retains very good natural acidity and produces very deep and rich wines with remarkable structure and in skilled hands it reveals wines of amazing depth, complexity and concentration of flavor which with age become supple with round textures and fine tannins. These wines can age superbly.
