The Finca Villacreces Ribera del Duero Pruno is one of Robert Parker's favorite Spanish wines. A little more modern in styling that their Villacreces namesake red, the Pruno is ripe and flashy, dark and opulent. It's another amazing find from Eric Solomon, who is at the top of his game right now.

One of the most sought-after pieces of land in Ribera del Duero, the estate of Villacreces sits next to Vega Sicilia, perhaps the most famous property in the region. It's also the former grape source of powerhouse Flor de Pingus, which itself speaks to the high caliber of their vineyards. Since the estate started bottling wines under their own label, Finca Villacreces has built up a well-deserved reputation as one of the finest producers in Spain.

Parker calls the Villacreces Pruno a baby Vega Sicilia, which if you're lucky, you can find a bottle for $300. We think $17.99 per bottle plus free shipping is a steal. Only 25 total cases available, don't miss it!

Rating
"Plum and boysenberry flavors are ripe and juicy inthis plump red. Notes of tar and mineral impart a savory aspect, while firm tannins and orange peel acidity lend focus. Drink now through 2024." The Wine Spectator, 90 Points

Wine maker notes
There is written evidence that the first vines were planted on the Villacreces Estate in the 13th Century. During the 14th Century, the vineyard was run by Saint Pedro de Villacreces and later on, became a monastery. In 2003 the Anton family, owners of Rioja Bodega Izadi and one of Spainís most famous Michelin starred restaurants in the Basque country, purchased the estate and invested in revitalizing both the estate and the vineyards.
