Considered by many observers to be the finest estate in Jumilla, Robert Parker calls Casa Castillo a "treasure trove for fabulous values."

On the heels of the 2013 vintage (93 Points WA), they have delivered again with another tremendous 93 point vintage. 100% Garnacha, sourced from an organic vineyard that closely resembles the terrior of the Southern Rhone: hot, dry summers and a limestone subsoil topped with gravel. Named for the mountain which overshadows Casa Castillo, the El Molar 2014 is another dynamite red from this highly sought after producer!

Rating
"The nose is nothing short of spectacular for a challenging vintage like 2014, when they had to sort grapes and produced less wine...The palate is silky and vibrant with great acidity and freshness. It might not be as complete as the 2013, but I don't see it that far away either." The Wine Advocate, 93 Points

"Brilliant ruby-red. Suave, smoke-inflected cherry and dark berry aromas are complemented by touches of violet and cracked pepper. The palate shows very good focus, with a spicy nuance lifting the gently sweet, energetic black raspberry, cherry-cola and lavender pastille flavors. Supple, well-knit tannins give firmness to the clinging, floral finish of this sappy, incisive and seamless wine." Josh Raynolds, Vinous 91 Points

Wine maker notes
The history of the Bodegas Casa Castillo dates back to 1941, when Mr. Jose Sanchez-Cerezo acquired the "Propiedad Viticola Casa Castillo" for the primary development and cultivation of rosemary. On the property was a winery built in 1870 by the French, when phylloxera forced them out of their vineyards. Over a hundred years later, the second generation Cerezo's revived the property with the reconstruction of the vineyard and the introduction of new varieties. In 1991 the wine cellar was reformed to preserve its original structure, and the first wine from Bodegas Casa Castillo was released to the market.
