91 points and $9.95 a bottle, it's easy to see why Cousino Macul's Don Matias Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 is one of the top selling reds at The Wine Buyer.

Founded in 1856, Cousino-Macul is the only 19th century winery in Chile that remains in the hands of the original founding family. Their Reserve wines are all estate grown, and after six generations of producing wines from the Maipo Valley, Cousino-Macul has delivered another winner with their Don Matias Cabernet 2013. Don't miss it!

Rating
"Fresh ripe red plums with autumn leaves on the nose. Strawberries and chocolate too, plus soft tannins. Sophisticated, elegant texture. Drink or hold." James Suckling, 91 Points

Wine maker notes
Cousino-Macul wines are made entirely with grapes sourced from their two estates located in the Maipo Valley. The Maipo Valley is Chile's oldest wine-producing region and, thanks to its favorable conditions, has long been the center of the country's wine industry. Because of its proximity to the mountains, the valley benefits from the "Andes Effect," in which cool air descends from the peaks in the afternoons, reducing temperatures and expanding the range of daily temperatures. This results in slow sugar development, contributing to the intensity of the grape color, its aromatic profile, retention of natural acidity and the ripeness of its tannins.

Review:
I would have been satisfied with just a decent wine at this price and was pleasantly surprised; this is one of the best I've had in this price range. I purchased six bottles of the 2013 and wish I had purchased a full case.
