A wine of this quality and magnitude can only come from carefully tended old gnarled vines grown under adverse conditions. The sandy calcareous clay soil strewn with rocks and stones around the village of Las Mesas in La Mancha makes it a difficult place to grow grapes. The arid Mediterranean-Continental climate only amplifies the harsh conditions.

Tasting notes

The Tempranillo harvested from these vineyards produces a deeply colored, full flavored wine with hints of ripe plums, black cherries and sweet exotic spices. The supple tannins make this wine a perfect compliment to many robust meat dishes and can age in the bottle well for many years.

"The 2008 Volver is also 100% Tempranillo sourced from 50+-year-old vines and aged for 14 months in new French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it showcases aromas of pain grille, earth notes, spice box, and fragrant blue and black fruits. Supple-textured, super-ripe and concentrated, on the palate it is mouth-filling, savory, and structured enough to evolve for 2-3 years. It can be enjoyed now and over the next 8-10 years.
