It's Back! The little brother of our top selling Brunello Riserva (95 Points, Wine Spectator), Fattoria La Lecciaia 2011 is an amazing Rosso di Montalcino that could be the bargain of the vintage!

Originally created in 1984, the Rosso's are from the younger parts of their Montalcino vineyards, aged for one year with 6 months in oak. The idea was to create a fresher style of wine and allowed producers to make money while waiting for their DOCG wine to age. They could also "declassify" any of their aging Brunello that had not quite reached the standards of this famed Tuscan region. A fantastic value, the 2011 Rosso di Montalcino is a ripe, beautiful expression of Sangiovese. Food friendly and ready to drink, this is a must have for all Italian wine lovers!

Rating
"The 2013 Rosso di Montalcino is pleasantly rustic and bold, with plenty of Sangiovese character. Sweet red cherry, tobacco, spice and cedar abound. The 2013 is a bit rough around the edges, but intriguing at the same time. Grippy, dusty tannins support the expressive finish." Antonio Galloni, Vinous 89 Points

Wine maker notes
Fattoria La Lecciaia is one of Montalcino's under the radar estates. It's gone from absolute obscurity to one of the best values in all of Tuscany, after Mauro Pacini purchased the estate in 1983. Situated in the central part of the Brunello zone, La Lecciaia is one of the oldest, contiguously run farms in the region. It covers 60 hectares, with 15 planted to vines and the rest dedicated to olive trees. La Lecciaia is a classic Rosso di Montalcino with huge aromatics of red fruits, spice and leather. The wine has superb balance and vibrant acidity, making it a perfect pairing for all traditional Italian dishes.
