Sterling Vineyards Napa Merlot 2012 750ML
Sku: 21212

Merlot is a benchmark varietal for Sterling, and we take great pride in this wine. It was fermented in stainless steel tanks. The juice was pumped over the skins 2-3 times daily, then pressed at near dryness. Keeping the lots separate, we put the wine to barrel, some prior to malolactic fermentation, some after. After 12 months of aging, the various lots were blended and bottled.

Tasting notes
The Sterling Napa Merlot celebrates this varietal with a vibrant, juicy core of red fruit; generous, youthful texture and a balanced spice profile. Following the deep purple hue, aromas of fresh cranberry and black cherry take the stage, complemented by cedar, spicy-floral and dried-herb notes. A great burst of flavor opens the palate, as deep red fruits interweave with cola across a smooth, weighted middle. Oak is the grounding force in the wine, holding it together and adding a toasty richness to the bright fruit profile. The finale is three parts, beginning with toasty clove and vanilla, followed by a burst of cherry compote and finishing with the lingering memory of wood spices.

Food pairing
The fine tannins, enjoyable fruit and balanced oak of this wine make it extremely food friendly; pair it with brined pork chops, pastas or grilled meats.
